The Gutenberg Printing Press located deep in the confines of historic Guye Cabin!

Lord Hooper and Lord Mitchell

The last big development in publishing the WAC Bulletin was the invention of the printing press. Invented in 1436 by a 39 year old German man named Johann Gutenberg, the printing press was a great improvement over hand-copying. Before the development of this time-saving and economical machine, WAC monks had to hand copy everything. This time-consuming and tedious process made the WAC bulletin extremely hard to come by, and astronomically expensive.

Gutenberg used his printing press to put ink on hundreds of individual letters that could be combined in numerous ways to create a entire page of text. After this stage was completed, as many copies as desired could be rendered. However, to print a different page, the individual letters had to be completely rearranged. This great invention helped Gutenberg reach his greatest achievement of the first mass-production of the Bible, which he published in 1456 in Mainz, Germany, and then was immediately adopted by the WAC for our bulletin.

When one looks at the influence of technology on our world, one of the most important ones is the printing press. Guttenberg managed to make the printing press efficient and thus immensely useful. Today, we are seeing the internet shape our world, and an online version of the WAC bulletin in pdf format! We have the opportunity to save Lord Mitchell and Lord Hooper lots of work, save a little paper, and save the Club a little money!

There is 3 feet! Yes over three feet of new snow at Guye Cabin!

Both Dave Mitchell and I got stuck on Saturday as the snow was coming down!

Two weeks ago Les Sargent reported our base had shrunk to 4 inches, and the North Cascades Highway was open!

Now the highway is closed, and the base is 38 inches!
