This trip is done from Annette Lake at the head of Humpback Creek. The Trailhead is at Exit 47 on the South Side. It is three miles to Annette Lake on a good trail. It also makes a good snowshoe trip if avalanche conditions are low. The Trail crosses 5-6 avalanche slopes.

On this day in June very little above the lake was visable. I had hoped to ascend to the ridge south of Silver's Summit, and traverse over to Abiel and Tinkham. From the campsites I ascended a faint climber's trail and then moved into small but stable talus. Eventually, I reached the ridge in the clouds, and found several inches of new snow above 5,000'. Turning right along the ridge I found myself on the summit of Silver Peak! I had reached the ridge North of the summit instead of South of the Summit!

Catch a couple of these in Annette Lake and you have a nice dinner!

Thanks to Matt Bennett for the photo!

This is a good early season trip, while there is still snow coving the basin. It makes a fine ski descent from Silver, although there is high avalanche danger in the winter.

Lake Annette is popular with day hikers, so to keep that wilderness feel get an early start.

4.5 hours, 7 miles.
